Provenance
Acquired by the present owner in Paris circa 1950s
Condition
The canvas is not lined. There is a thick layer of varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate. UV examination reveals some spots of retouching in places mainly to the background. There are some fine lines of craquelure in places and some paint shrinkage mainly to the dark pigments. There is some frame rubbing to the extreme left and right edges and some tiny paint losses towards the lower edge. Otherwise, this work is in overall fairly good conditon.
Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the background is more blue in the original.
