Condition
This very complex painting is in very beautiful condition, despite its mixture of techniques. The artist has mixed a little fine grit with his pigment in some areas, and this appears to have remained stable. The canvas has never been removed from its original stretcher. The inscription on the reverse is clearly visible. It is possible that the painting can be lightly cleaned, but this may well disturb the sandy texture mentioned above. Varnishing the work is strongly discouraged. It is recommended that the work be hung
as is. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
