The delicate sautoir composed of numerous seed pearls measuring approximately 3.4 to 1.9 mm, suspending two drops set with old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.75 and 1.70 carats, further accented by numerous old European and single-cut diamonds, with fringe composed of pear-shaped diamonds, weighing a total of approximately 5.20 carats, necklace length 23 inches, pendant lengths 3¾ and 5 inches. With a fitted box signed J.E. Caldwell & Co., the exterior with gilt-tooled intitals and dates "C.M.C. to M.N.C. 1884-Nov.13-1909."
Condition
In very good condition. The sautoir is flexible and very well-made. The creamy white seed pearls exhibit soft rose and green overtones, with good to excellent luster and some evidence of wrinkling to the skin visible under magnification. The two center old European-cut diamonds are approximately F-G color, VVS clarity. The numerous side diamonds are approximately G-H color, VS clarity. Please note that the pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
