Condition

In very good condition, especially considering the piece's age. Enameling intact, diamonds approximately I-J color and SI clarity. The pearls are a lovely shade of mocha with strong overtones of peach and lavender, with good luster and slight wrinkling to the skins; the drop pearl is slightly flattened on the back. Please note the pearls have not been tested for natural origin. With Phillips Bros. mark on the reverse, at the center. Provenance: Sotheby's New York, December 6, 2006. Catalogue Note

An almost identical pendant signed by Giuliano and Phillips is illustrated by Geoffrey C. Munn, Castellani and Giuliano, Revivalist Jewellers of the 19th Century, pl. 28. The two signatures on the pendant illustrate the relationship that Carlo Giuliano had with prominent retail houses during his first years in London. Another similar example is illustrated by Peter Hinks, Nineteenth Century Jewellery, pl. G(a).
