Literature

B.B. Fredericksen and F. Zeri, Census of Pre-Nineteenth Century Italian Paintings in North American Public Collections, Harvard 1972, p. 627.

Condition

The painting appears to be more yellow in colour and more muted in tonality. The canvas has been relined and the varnished paint surface appear to be in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of the varnish which makes inspection difficult. However bar a few minor recent flecks of retouching to the floor, there appears to have been very little intervention to the painting. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame with a few knocks.
