With full margins, in good condition apart from a soft vertical crease alongside the right sheet edge. The margins at top and right recto, and right verso, show extremely pale mottled discoloration, visible only upon close inspection, framed.

The owner of the current lot was Lucian Freud's housekeeper, who describes Freud as a great friend and mentor.  One morning in 1982, walking to work, she passed a bookshop with the artist's book by Lawrence Gowing in the window.  Excited at the prospect of surprising the artist with the book, she was quickly discouraged to hear that the price, which included the signed print inside, exceeded her monthly student income. 
Freud read her unhappiness in a glance when she arrived and upon hearing the story, took her to his lounge where he kept his precious things, took out of a drawer one print, and signed it 'H From L.F'.  He presented the gift to her with a copy of the book.
