Description
- Robert Mapplethorpe
- SELECTED IMAGES OF DENNIS SPEIGHT
- gelatin silver print
2 photographs, comprising 'Dennis with Flowers' and 'Dennis with Thorns,' each flush-mounted, the photographer's copyright stamp, signed and dated, and with title, date, and edition '8/10' in ink on the reverse, framed, 1983 (Black Book, pls. 44 and 45) (2)
Condition
These photographs are in generally very good to excellent condition.
Dennis with Thorns - In high raking light, the following are visible: a few tiny deposits of original retouching overall; a 2-inch very fine horizontal scratch in the lower right quadrant; and a soft, barely perceptible small crease in the lower right quadrant. The reverse of the print is hinged to the mat window along its upper edge.
Dennis with Flowers - In high raking light, the following are visible: a very small linear impression, measuring approximately 1/8-inch, in the upper left quadrant and a 2-inch faint horizontal scratch in the lower left quadrant, neither of which appears to break the emulsion. Also in the lower left quadrant is a sharp 3-inch vertical crease extending into the image from the margin. This does not break the emulsion and is not immediately apparent when viewing the photograph in its framed presentation. The reverse of the print is hinged intermittently along each edge to the window mat.
