Description

  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed and dated in pencil on the mount, 1936 (Out of the Shadow, pl. 108)

Provenance

The photographer to his friend and executor, Robert Byers
Acquired from the above, 2002

Condition

This early photograph, on a modern mount, is in generally excellent condition. Upon extremely close examination, there is a pen-point-sized impression that does not appear to break the emulsion in the lower left quadrant. There is a tiny rust-colored deposit near the right edge of the mount. This early print was originally acquired directly from Brett Weston by his friend and executor, the photographer Robert Byers, in the 1970s. At Byers's request, the print was placed on a modern mount and then signed and dated by Weston on its new mount. This print is accompanied by a sheet of paper with title and date in Byers's hand in pencil.
