Description

  • Edward Weston
  • 'CLOUDS OVER MT. LASSEN'
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted to Hi-Art Art Illustration Board, titled and numbered 'NE-L1g' and 'no. 583' in pencil on the reverse, 1937 (Conger 1137)

Condition

This print, on paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, faint silvering is visible at its periphery, primarily in the dark areas. Tiny deposits of original retouching are visible overall. Upon very close examination are the following: a pin-point-sized impression that does not break the emulsion in the central cloud area; a 1/4-inch irregular-shaped scratch in the upper right quadrant, which may disturb the emulsion slightly; and a one-inch superficial scratch in the lower right corner. The print is mounted to off-white board. The corners of the mount are bumped or creased, and there is a small tear at the tip of the lower right corner. The reverse of the mount is lightly soiled.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
