Condition
This photograph is on paper with a very slight texture and a semi-glossy surface. The print is quite striking: the transition of tones from the deep gray sky to the highlights on the wood are masterfully handled. When the print is examined in raking light, a faint raised area can be seen about an inch from the center of the right edge; this is likely due to a particle trapped between print and mount during the mounting process.
The print is mounted to stiff board which shows some minor age-darkening and very faint soiling.

Catalogue Note
The postcard accompanying this lot indicates that by April of 1947, Ichiro Misumi and Weston were actively engaged in correspondence. Weston states, presumably in response to a letter from Misumi, ‘You are right—we need a new photo magazine.’ He also invites Misumi to pay him a visit when he is in Carmel.
