the saint depicted at full length dressed as a monk in three-quarter profile with his hands raised in prayer, his body elongated and his relatively small face with a long beard, his clothes painted in sombre and warm ochre colours underlining the simple and ascetic life of a monk; this icon taken from the Deesis row of an iconostasis

Condition
the background of the icon stripped down to the gesso ground, a vertical split running from top to bottom through the icon on the left hand side of the centre of the icon, a horizontal band of approx 3-4cm width with new levkas running from left to right through the frame in the middle; serious wear to the original painting, the face, beard and hands largely repainted at a later date, the monk's clothes also repainted in many places, some damage along the edges of the icon, a patch with loss of levkas and paint in the lower left corner of the icon
