Oil on canvas

Condition
This work is in good condition overall. There is a discreet indication of light undulation on the lower right corner of the painting. There are some craquelures to the impasto areas. There are minor paint losses to the lower left quadrant (on the lower right of the dress) but only visible upon close observation. There is also some very minor paint loss and faint scratches to the left toes of the figure in the lower margin; otherwise the paint sound and in stable condition. Examination under ultraviolet light appears to show minor scattered dots of restoration, which is apparent on the dancer's face, the bottom register of the sarong, the right margin and lower left corner of the canvas. The color is more vibrant in reality with the tones more golden and the green tones are softer in reality. The left half of the catalogue illustration is too overexposed. Framed.

Catalogue Note
"Through some subjective processes, all symptoms in life can be a source for aesthetic experiences. Affandi did not differentiate such symptoms of life with the aesthetic objects. His paintings depict natural landscapes, cockfights, water buffaloes, fishermen's boats, Balinese Barong dances, and horse carts. Symptoms of life, which one can all "reality", are linked to aesthetic objects in his paintings."
