Description

  • An Attic Black-figured Band Cup
  • Glazed terracotta
  • Diameter at rim 8 7/8 in. 22.54 cm.
each side painted with a scene depicting the training of runners, two youths flanking a man riding a horse, pseudo-inscriptions in the field, palmettes flanking the handles, details in added white, a dotted circle in the reserved tondo.

Robert Feuer, Woodmere, New York, acquired in the 1970s

Condition

Repaired from three large and many smaller fragments, areas of restoration and in-paintings along some of the joins, very few and very minor losses along some of the joins, especially in one handle zone. A chip to the interior of the rim. Losses to black glaze on the handles and losses to added white. The foot reattached, and the top edge of the foot chipped in one place.
