Description

  • An Ottoman Polychrome Pottery Dish
  • Glazed earthenware
  • Diameter 11 5/8 in. 29.5 cm.
with low pierced foot-ring, the interior painted in blue, black, green, and red on a white ground with a three-masted galleon at sea in a strong wind, pennants flying above, three fish swimming below, six small florets on the exterior; traces of gilding.

Condition

Good and as shown and described. There are several minor radiate hairline cracks around the rim, visible on the exterior, one of them also visible on the interior below the center of the ship’s hull. The edge of the rim has numerous small chips and abrasions. There is a firing crack in the glaze on the exterior, and a few small abraded areas on the exterior inside the foot-ring.
