Catalogue Note

"Tomorrow the bird will have come down to earth
Resting on his springboard
The violins will have dispersed their bouquet
And will be dreaming of harvest

The day is a fragrant orange
Its rays of light and fresh air bring joy
To the lovers consciously lazing
The name of the game is happiness."

Paul Eluard, "Marc Chagall", Peintures 1942-1945, 1947
