  • lapis lazuli
of compressed baluster form, finely carved on each side with a taotie mask above a lotus flower, all set between lappets, the shoulders set with a pair of animal-mask handles suspending loose rings, the domed cover decorated with an undercut chilong finial (2)

Sotheby's New York, 18th and 19th October 1990, lot 399.

Condition

There is a 1/4 inch shallow chip to the outer mouthrim. There is a small chip to the ear of one animal mask handle and a tiny chip to the tail of one of the winged beasts. There are a few very minor chips throughout. The color of the cover is more vibrant than the vase. The color of the piece is slightly darker than shown in the catalogue.
