of elongated oval shape, supported on a pedestal foot, painted with two birds on bamboo surrounded by chrysanthemums and asters, inscribed huang hua qiu yan (the autumn allure of yellow flowers), dated autumn of the gengyin year, signed Liu Yucen with two artist seals reading zhu and ren, the base with one seal in iron-red reading Yucen

Catalogue Note
Liu Yucen is one of the Eight Friends of Zhushan, a group of porcelain artists active during the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. Zhushan is in the vicinity of Jingdezhen, which was the location of the Imperial kilns for two dynasties. When the Imperial kilns closed, this group of artists shifted their attention to supplying the general public.
