Condition
It is well known that Renoir or Vollard re-sized many of these small oil sketches and created finished pictures as a result. In doing so they would have filled out or painted over blank areas of canvas and signed the work. I believe this is what we see here. The actual recent restoration seems to be along the lower and left edges. The bulk of the painting we see today seems to date from the artist's lifetime. If the photograph which is included in the literature is clear (which is in doubt), the added elements to shoulder and background seem to be pre-war.
