Condition

This painting, like so many of the artist’s works, is thickly painted with sand mixed in with his pigment. The paint layer seems to be stable and clean. It is undamaged except for one loss in the extreme upper left edge. The canvas appears to have been lined, but this seems to have been carefully applied and has caused no ill effects to the surface. Under ultraviolet light, it is hard to positively identify any restorations. Although it is conceivable that there are a few retouches, this is highly unlikely, and Tamayo’s pictures are usually reliable and stable for the most part.
