Description

  • colour-change sapphire, diamond, gold
Centring on a cushion-shaped colour-changing sapphire weighing 10.40 carats, surrounded by circular-cut diamonds extending to the shoulders, mounted in 18 karat white gold. Ring size: 6

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to Gübelin report, the colour-change sapphire is natural, of Madagascar origin, with no indications of heating. Appendix also states that this sapphire "possesses a high degree of transparency, combined with a very strong colour-change effect". Please refer to the report and appendix for details. In our opinion, this sapphire shows a deep strong blue colour upon daylight, and deep blue-purple upon incandescent lighting, eye clean. Upon 10x loupe, there are only a few tiny crystal inclusions close to side, not seen to naked eyes. Diamonds together weighing approximately 0.90 carat, are about F to G colours, mostly VS clarity. Condition: Karat white gold ring mount, in very good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by Gübelin report numbered 12066047, dated 6 June 2012, stating that the 10.40 carat sapphire is natural, of Madagascar origin, with no indications of heating. Further accompanied by an appendix stating that the stone "possesses a high degree of transparency, combined with a very strong colour-change effect, from blue when viewed in daylight to violet upon exposure to incandescent light. Such a combination of characteristics is rare in natural colour-change sapphires of this size."
