Description

The flexible band of honeycomb design, each link centring on a circular-cut sapphire, to a mystery set sapphire clasp concealing a cocktail watch, length approximately 180mm, dial signed Van Cleef & Arpels and numbered, French assay and maker's marks.

A similar 'Ludo Hexagon' bracelet watch set with aquamarines appeared in the exhibition Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels, Smithsonian, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, New York, February 18-July 4, 2011, page 39, fig 34.
Condition
Stamped with French assay mark to side of watch case and underside of bracelet for 18 carat gold. Dial signed Van Cleef & Arpels, reverse of watch case numbered 9030, bracelet numbered 49721, maker's mark of P & Fils within a lozenge stamped to reverse of bracelet. Mechanical movement in running condition at time of cataloguing, please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee future working condition of watches. Dial is revealed by pushing the little knobs on the both sides of the case. Sapphires well matched in colour, with scratches and nicks. Clasp secure. Normal to extended signs of wear to the metal, abrasions and scratches commensurate with age and wear, dial with some small oxidation spots. In good condition. Total weight approximately 133 grams.
