The gold hinged box of reeded design, the interior of polished gold, monogrammed D.S. inside the cover, measuring approximately 166 x 93 x 30mm, signed Cartier, assay and maker's marks.
Condition
French assay marks for 18 carat gold. Signed Cartier, Paris and numbered 0 18380, maker's mark. Monogrammed D.S. at the centre, on interior of cover. Signs of normal wear to the metal, particularly to the bottom, scratches consistent with age and use. In good condition. Total weight approximately 509 grams.

Catalogue Note
The monogram D.S. refers to Denyse Simenon (1920-1995), wife of Georges Simenon (1903-1989), the prolific Belgian author best known for his novels and short stories featuring Commissaire Maigret. Née Denyse Ouimet, Denyse met Georges in New York, in 1945, and they married in Reno, Nevada, in 1950. Following the birth of their three children, the couple moved to France, before finally settling in Switzerland.
