Description
- gold, platinum, enamel, diamond, ribbon
The circular dial with Roman numeral indicators, applied with translucent purple guilloché enamel and a dotted white enamel trim, the center set with rose-cut diamonds, Swiss movement, dial signed Cartier, Paris, Londres; suspended from a black grosgrain ribbon spaced by circular and oval-shaped segments applied with translucent purple guilloché enamel, decorated with garland motifs, set with rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately .70 carat, length 26 inches, numbered 1806, with French assay mark and workshop mark for Lachelin, two diamonds missing; circa 1900.
Condition
In good condition, with the exception of the dial. The enamel finish has been stripped away to reveal the guilloché ground. The purple guilloché enamel is a deep purple, brighter and more iridescent than it appears in the printed catalogue. The reverse of the watch bearing some minor scratches and one of the white enamel dots is missing. The diamonds on the dial weigh approximately .05 carat; like the diamonds on the ribbon, they are near colorless and decorative in quality. The ribbon is slightly frayed due to age and wear. The watch is currently running and is fitted with a Swiss movement, The chain is marked with a workshop mark that can be found on page 63 of Poincons de Bijouterie book. The watch needs a complete overhaul, a process that will span over a few weeks and cost approximately $400.00. Sotheby's can provide the buyer with a referral for watch repairs. Please see the Important Notice Regarding Watches on page 349 of the printed catalogue.
