Description
- gold, platinum, colored stone, diamond
The fanciful flower arrangement set with four carved sapphire leaves accented by 24 cabochon emeralds, within a frame of black and red simulated lacquer, further set with old European and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.35 carats, signed Cartier, numbered 1842, with French assay and workshop marks, small portion of simulated lacquer; circa 1930. With signed box.
Condition
In good condition. The sapphires are a medium to medium light slightly violetish blue, moderately included and transparent to semi-transparent. The emeralds are decorative in quality. The diamonds are approximately G-I color, VS-SI clarity. The simulated lacquer may be ebonite, a branded term for a vulcanized rubber used by Cartier in jewelry and watches of the period, formerly known as vulcanite. The lowermost left (facing) section and a small section on the bottom half of the brooch may have been later replaced. The box is not original. Maker's mark for Henri Picq.
