Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is a slight undulation to the sheet, inherent to the artists working method. There is evidence of some wear and handling to the sheet, resulting in some surface abrasions, handling marks at the sides, a footprint and a 2 inch long repaired tear at the bottom edge of the sheet. It appears that this aforementioned wear to the sheet was intended by the artist and a result of the artist's studio environment and working method. The sheet is hinged verso to the matte, intermittently along the edges. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note

“Polke literally and metaphorically dissects and dissolves images… all the while raising philosophical questions deeply concerned with not only the way images look and are made but also the possible and probable slippages, uncertainties, and misperceptions that can occur when we apprehend them.” (Exh. Cat., Dallas Museum of Art, Sigmar Polke, History of Everything, Paintings and Drawings 1998-2002, pp. 12-13)
