Condition
The canvas has been relined.
There are very minor signs of slight abrasion to the extreme edges in line with the framing, not wholly visible in the present frame. There is also minor surface dirt, with areas of reticulation to the purple scarf covering Sarah's head. There is a minor surface scratch just visible to the right of the sitter's head. There is a further scratch starting at the neck and ending by the sitter's hand.
Ultraviolet light reveals an area of fluorescence visible to Sarah's right eye and to the right of her face measuring c. 2 ½ by 2 ½ in. There is a further tiny spot of fluorescence in the top left hand corner in line with a probable retouching.
