The paintings are slightly lighter in tone than the catalogue illustrations suggest. The pair are unlined and the paint surface is in good overall condition, apart from an even craquelure and stretch bar marks. Both also have a discoloured varnish. Painting 1: Inspection under Ultraviolet light confirms the presence of the varnish and reveals some very minor scattered retouching. There is also an area of refilling to the craquelure in the sky. Painting 2: There is scattered minor retouching to the peripheries and evidence of old retouching in the centre right, and to an old upside down L-shaped tear measuring approximately 4 inches in the trees centre left. There is tiny cosmetic infilling in the sea. Both paintings are ready to hand and in good overall condition. They are offered in a matching gilt wood plaster frame with acorn inlays.
