Condition

The panel is flat and made up of two boards with slight cleavage at the vertical join visible on the reverse. The paint surface overall appears to be in good condition with good retention of color and detail and the cleavage running the length of the join has been sensitively filled and inpainted. Three very minor losses beside the sitter's right eye and eyebrow have been recently retouched. Inspection under UV confirms the restoration to the crack and minor retouching at all edges and to a possible surface crack or scratch to the background an inch to the right of the nose approximately an inch long. The varnish fluoresces a very milky green which impedes an in depth reading and though further older restoration may be evident beneath it is difficult to tell. The painting can be hung in its present state and is offered unframed.
