The slate shows no cracks or weaknesses. the paint surface has been very well retained overall and coloration is strong and fresh. examination under UV reveals some retouching on parts of Christ Child's legs and one tiny spot on his arm. a few in background. generally, looks quite good. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.

An attribution to Cavallaucci has been proposed by Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri on the basis of photographs. The figures of the Madonna and Child are very similar to those in a larger work on canvas by Cavallucci, depicting the Holy Family, in the Pinacoteca Civica, Ascoli Piceno (see S. Rudolph, La pittura del '700 a Roma, Milan 1983, reproduced fig. 144).
