Catalogue Note
These two putti figures are a motif copied from the painting depicting Spring from the cycle of Four Seasons painted by Francesco Albani in circa 1640-45. A variant cycle of four small paintings of putti representing the seasons was formerly in the Aldrovandi collection (see C. Puglisi, Francesco Albani, New Haven and London1999, p. 195, cat. nos. 114.ii.V.a and 114.LV.a.).
