Condition

Later selvage, not lined, older lining on upper edge disintigrating. Slightly muted colors of the whole palette. Piecing and patching throughout. Restoration and reweaving throughout. Attractive and stable.

Catalogue Note

The millefleur tapestry design, patterns incorporating numerous small flowers across a solid ground, developed in the mid 15th century and remained popular throughout the mid 16th century. More elaborate examples interspersed with figures or, as in this lot, animals, were immensely popular.
