Catalogue Note
Venetian brass objects made in the first half of the 16th century were often elaborately decorated with arabesque patterns, drawn from Venice's extensive contact, through both trade and conflict, with the Turkish and Arab empires. A gilt brass example with overall arabesque patterns similar to this lot is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (no. M.41-1946).
