Description

  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Hugh O'Neill Hencken, Cambridge, MA, until at least circa 1974 (as Sir Godfrey Kneller).

Condition

There are a few isolated retouches found in this composition. These are focused on the bridge of the nose, along the right sleeve, in the broach made from leaves on the chest, and in some craquelure within the upper right background. The neck has been rubbed and has subsequently lost some original glazing. Otherwise, the picture does present a strong image and as the retouches have been sensitively applied, it could possibly hang in its current state.
