Condition
The picture is relined. The picture is under a dirty varnish, which is visible to the naked eye and appears rather discolored and thick under UV. There are a few scattered retouches in the sitters hair and along his collar. These scattered retouches are older and are visible underneath the current varnish. There is also a small patch of retouching along the right temple of the sitter, which is visible to the naked eye. In a carved gilt wood frame.

This painting can be dated to circa 1790 and is consistent with the type of portrait Stuart painted when he was in Ireland, or in London slightly earlier.
