Condition
The painting is relined and a little pressed in areas, particularly in the hair, though the paint surface has otherwise been well preserved with good retention of detail in the jewels and lace work. There is a minor loss to the forehead of the sitter.
An inspection under UV is impeded by a milky varnish though there does appear to be a small area of inpaint of approximately 1 by 1 in. on the shoulder in the ermine trim which is visible to the naked eye.
The painting could be hung in its present state though its appearance would be enhanced with a light clean and revarnish.
Offered in a carved gilt wood frame.

Catalogue Note
The composition is based on a full-length portrait of Anne of Austria by Pourbus and assistants in the Musée National des Château de Versailles et de Trianon (see Literature, B. Ducos, cat. no. P.B.20). The elaborate gown derives from Pourbus's depictions of Marie de Medici, such as the full-lenth portrait in the Musée du Louvre.
