Seized from the above by Hitler’s agents and allocated in the central depot of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (inv. D.G.10), where it was reserved for the Führermuseum;
Restituted to David Goldmann;
Thence by descent to the present owner.

Condition

Single panel is flat, stable, un-beveled, and with two horizontal strips of wood for reinforcement. The picture presents itself strongly to the naked eye, with no major losses or abrasions. Under UV, there is a very uneven varnish with scattered loose retouches applied throughout the panel. None seem to address a major damage or loss, though a more defined area is found above and to the left of the sitters head. Some of what fluoresces under UV may simply be dirtied varnish, and it seems like some older retouches sit below areas of varnish. To the naked eye though none of this us overly disturbing and perhaps a new varnish may be the best course of action.
