Both panels are flat, stable and beveled on all four edges. The paint surface is stable, if a little dirty, beneath a discolored and dirty varnish. Landscape with a haybarn: The paint surface is a little thinned in areas with the red ground showing through on the sky. There are minor, old, retouched losses that have since discolored and are visible to the naked eye and a minor scratch and loss in the rock at left. Inspection under UV confirms those retouches and reveals strengthening to the gateway at center. Landscape with a waterfall: There is a fine crack to the paint surface of approximately 1 in. in the sky and two very small areas of lifting below. There is a minor loss to the rock in the lower right corner and minor retouches, now discolored, are scattered throughout.
