The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work bearing an enormous frame is not reinforced on the reverse. The panel is flat and the paint layer is stable. While there is some thinness to the children on the right side and in the neck and chest of Christ, the angels above and the central figures of the Holy Family are all very well preserved. The work is extremely dirty but it is clear that the painting is in very healthy state. While there may be some old restorations beneath a dirt layer, no restorations are positively identifiable other than those attending to some of the thinness mentioned above.
