Description

- 'MANHATTAN BRIDGE (LOOKING UP)'
- Gelatin silver print
the photographer's '50 Commerce St., New York City' studio and Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' stamps and with title, date, and annotations in colored pencil on the reverse, 1936 (Yochelson, Lower East Side, pl. 21)
Condition
This photograph, on lightly textured, double-weight paper with a very slight surface sheen, is in generally very good to excellent condition. Silvering is visible in the black margin edges and in the central portion of the image. Upon close examination in raking light, occasional deposits of original retouching are visible. A long, thin deposit of retouching, likely original, along the lower edge of the image addresses a flaw in the negative and not a scratch on the print. The margin corners are bumped and lightly creased, and there is minor edge wear. At the upper right and lower left margin edges, there are small clamp impressions
The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at its periphery. On the reverse of the print are the following annotations in colored pencil: 'Neg 173;' 'code II A 4.G;' and '11/11/36.'
