Description
- Harry Callahan
- DETROIT (GRASSES)
- Gelatin silver print
hinged to Crescent illustration board, signed in pencil on the mount, signed 'Harry Callahan' in pencil and signed 'Harry M. Callahan' and annotated '2416 North Lakeview, Chicago 14. Illinois.' in ink on the reverse, framed, 1941
Condition
This print is on double-weight paper with a glossy surface. In raking light, several small ripple-like creases are visible in the upper left portion of the image. These creases do not appear to break the emulsion and do not detract in anyway from the fine appearance of this early print.
The photograph was originally dry-mounted to the Crescent illustration board mount, to which it is now hinged. The print was recently removed from the mount, and a treatment report is available upon request through the department. The white front of the mount is unevenly discolored and the original slick surface is now largely matte. '19 15' is written in pencil in an unidentified hand on the mount. On the reverse of the mount, strips of white tape run along the edges, partially obscuring the notation 'Harry M. Callahan.'
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
