Description
- Silver, Glass
- height 22 1/2 in., length 17 1/2 in.
- 57.2cm, 44.5cm
formed as a realistically modeled caparisoned elephant with houdah, ridden by a mahout and bearing an inverted-pear-shaped liqueur cistern to either side, selected by moving the tail and dispensed by turning the crank to raise the trunk, on a silver-mounted wheeled rosewood base with clips holding nine silver and glass cordial glasses, the front mounted with a presentation plaque.

Condition
knop finial on one side cistern bent and pushed down into cover; missing two dangling lozenges but one present; lead solder reinforcements to both side cisterns but not noticeable; silver glass holders probably circa 1928 when presentation plaque added, overall good condition, charming and unusual model

Catalogue Note
The probably later presentation plaque is engraved, "From the Indian Staff - W.H. Brady & Co., Ltd. - 12-10-28." That firm, begun in 1895 and incoporated in 1911, was founded with a mission to introduce and extend modern technology to all regions within India.
