Catalogue Note
While not fully displayed, the arms are those of Weston of Sutton Place, Surrey, impaling Gage, for John II Westin (d. 1730), last male heir of the blood of the founder, and his wife Elizabeth Gage (d. 1724), sister of Thomas Gage, 1st Viscount Gage (d. 1754) and thus aunt of General Thomas Gage, who served in the American Revolution. The Weston family owned Sutton Place until 1788; later owners have included J. Paul Getty, who bought it in 1959, Stanley J. Seeger, Frederick R. Koch, and the current owner Alisher Usmanov.
