Description

formed as a rough-hewn pink granite arch with projecting upper body, the white enamel dial with Arabic chapter rings within a leaf tip bezel and laurel wreath below chased Cyrillic initials AI, the face applied with dates 1877 and 1902 flanking an Imperial eagle, the lower body inset with figures of Mercury bearing a caduceus and a miner wearing an apron and leaning on his hammer, flanking a pendant shield cast with a caduceus and crossed mining hammers, the base applied with a silver plaque inscribed in Russian 'To the Highly Esteemed/Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Iznoskov/From the Grateful Employees of the State Mountain Factories Corporation/and Russian Association of Metals ‘Iznoskov, Zukkau and Co', bun feet, struck with workmaster's initials and K.Fabergé in Cyrillic beneath the Imperial Warrant, 84 standard

Condition

The figures slightly loose. One section of the laurel surrounding the timepiece is loose and is a replacement. The initials surmounted are off but present. The back of the timepiece with scratches. An interesting and impressive object, but we recommended that prospective bidders should view in person. Sotheby’s does not guarantee the clock mechanism.
