Catalogue Note

The Imperial Porcelain Manufactory perfected the painting of floral bands on gilded grounds through the creation of first the Cabinet Service and then the Dowry Services for the daughters of Paul I. After the completion of these services, pieces decorated with bands of rich, pink rose blossoms frequently appeared in the factory's production, as the offered lot shows. The motif appeared in many works made for Empress Maria Feodorovna and now housed at Pavlovsk. For other comparisons, see N. von Wolf (ed. V. Znamenov), Imperatorskii farforovyi zavod, 1744-1904, SPb-Moscow, 2008, pp. 155-159, 172, 174-175, 188, 207, 216-219.
