the flesh rendered with soft shades, the features well defined, Christ's chiton and himation depicted with pastel blue and pink colours, the Mother of God's garments painted in the traditional colours, the drapery formed with gold brushstrokes, decorated with gem-studded and embroidered hems, the prominent white halos with white rays, on a green ground
Condition
Two vertical cracks running from top to bottom of the panel, the border and background stripped to the levkas, the background repainted with a green colour, some loss of levkas and paint along the vertical cracks especially to the top of the maphorion of the Mother of God, some minor retouching to the painting
