painted in a naturalistic style on a gold ground, the Mother of God in frontal position holding the Christ Child, in the foreground angels helping the suffering, the borders decorated to simulate polychrome enamel, signed and dated in the lower right border
Condition
two vertical cracks running from top to bottom through the panel, some minor wear and some minor retouching to the painting

Dmitry Korin (d. 1897) is one of the famous icon painters of the late 19th century from Palekh. His son, Pavel Korin (1892-1967) was the renowned artist, restorer and icon collector, whose important icon collection is now in the Tretyakov Gallery.
