Catalogue Note
The photographer Adam Fuss has distinguished himself by reviving historical photographic techniques to produce thoroughly contemporary results. He has worked most extensively in the photogram technique, as in the present lot and Lot 174, but has also produced accomplished bodies of work in the daguerreotype process and with pinhole photography.
In this image, Fuss has lai𒅌d a christening gown upon a sheet of photographic paper and exposed it to light, creating an account of the subject that is simultaneously literal and lyrical.
