This painting has been recently cleaned and it is worth noting that the richness of color and variation of hue is not adequately reflected in the catalogue photograph. The surface is smooth and impasto intact, with fine alligatoring visible in the darkest areas of the sea and sails visible under close inspection. Under UV, finely applied inpainting fluoresces in the sails and in the lower left and right corners of the canvas.
