Catalogue Note
Gold openwork ceremonial necklaces with pendants designed to cover all the chest area, known as lebbas, became popular in the late nineteenth century, and were worn by both Muslim and Jewish women. This piece denotes a modern trend in lebba designing with seven pendants in lieu of nine, preceding the five-pendant lebba. The mixture of dark blue and green gemstones on this example indicate a Meknes origin.
