Description
- Ink on paper with silk
composed of 16 leaves, each with 2 lines of Persian text in nasta'liq script in black ink, 2 panels in smaller script between them, laid down on card, the leaf borders of varying colours filled with scrolling flowers, animals and vegetation, opening leaf with illuminated headpiece with bismillah, following leaf with a pasted-down panel of illumination, front and back leaves lined with silk, old collector's label

Catalogue Note
Muhammad Zaman al-Tabrizi grew up in Tabriz, having been born in Kirman. Qadi Ahmad describes him as having executed manuscripts as well as manuscript pages, such as the present muraqqa'. Three further works by al-Tabrizi are known including one dated 994 AH/1585 AD (see Mehdi Bayani, Ahval ve Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol.III, Tehran, 1348 sh., p.740, and V. Minorsky (transl.), A Treatise by Qadi Ahmad Son of Mir Munshi, Calligraphers and Painters, Washington, 1959).
